Abstract

The Law regulates weapons. Its purpose is to determine the rights and obligations of state and local government institutions and individuals with regard to the circulation of arms, ammunition, their components and special equipment in Latvia, as well as to determine the classification, prohibitions and restrictions on these items in order to guarantee personal and public safety. The classifications of the regulated weapons include self-defense weapons and their ammunition; hunting weapons and their ammunition; sporting weapons and their ammunition; weapons of the collection; and weapons and their ammunition for cultural and historical purposes.
