Abstract This Water Code regulates the relationship originating from ownership, use and management of water resources and is directed at the creation of conditions for rational water uses and protection of water, restoration of water basins, preservation and improvement of water ecosystems. The Water Code consists of 10 Sections that contain 28 Chapters sub-divided into 103 articles. Section 1 Lays down the general provisions. Section 2 regards state management in the field of water use and water protection. Section 3 regards standardization and rate setting in the field of water use and water protection, geographical distribution, projecting, construction and putting into operation of works that could have impact on water resources. Section 4 deals with water uses. Section 5 regards water protection. Section 6 determines the economic mechanism of ensuring of rational use and protection of water. Section 7 deals with supervision over the use and protection of water, state water monitoring, state registration of water resources, state water cadastre and water balance. Section 8 establishes the liability for the infringement of water legislation, the modalities of dispute settlement and the modalities of the compensation for damage. Section 9 regards international relations in the field of the use and the protection of water. Section 10 lays down the conclusive provisions.
