Abstract This Act, consisting of 111 sections divided into eleven Parts and completed by one Schedule, concerns the management, conservation, use and protection of water resources in Northern Territory. The property in and the rights to the use, flow and control of all water in the Territory is vested in the Territory (sect. 9). The Act contains provisions on the public right to water for domestic and stock purpose (sect. 10) and other rights to water (Part 2 Div. 1) and on water pollution (Part 2 Div. 2). The Act provides for inspections, the preparation of water allocation plans, the creation of water control districts and for the creation of water advisory committees and of the Water Resources Review Panel (Part 3). Under Part 5, the use of surface water resources is regulated while Part 6 is dedicated to groundwater resources. Part 7 concerns the protection of water quality and Part 8 covers water resources development works. The Act also provides for water fees and charges (Part 9).
