Abstract

This chapter of the Maine Revised Statutes, known as Maine Hazardous Waste, Septage and Solid Waste Management Act, concerns waste management. It declares that it is the policy of the State to pursue and implement an integrated approach to hazardous and solid waste management, which shall be based on the following priorities: reduction of waste generated at the source, including both the amount and toxicity of waste; waste reuse; waste recycling; waste composting; waste processing which reduces the volume of waste needing disposal, including waste-to-energy technology; and land disposal. The chapter provides for solid waste; solid waste management subsidy; tire stockpile abatement; management of motor vehicle tires; dangerous or unsafe material control; hazardous matter control; maine hazardous waste fund; and hazardous waste and waste oil.
