Abstract

This Act makes provision with respect to establishment and constitution of village councils and definition of their functions, procedures, etc. A function of a village council is to establish and maintain plans for the following: schemes or development schemes for any part or all of the council area; adherence to safety at sea measures; responses to natural disasters; the sustainable use of coastal, reef, and sea foods. The functions of a village council include, among, other things, the regulation of fishing grounds and the provision of services relating to health, sanitation, prevention and suppression of infection diseases and prevention of pollution of water sources and land resources.
