It also inserts a definition of ‘Veterinary Officer’ and amends provisions that allow certain practices to be undertaken by persons who are not recognized veterinary surgeons. The new Schedule 2 specifies exemptions from restrictions on practice of veterinary surgery requiring approval of veterinary officer, whereas new article 10A allows the Minister to prescribe by Order fees for the giving of approvals by the Veterinary Officer under paragraph 3 of Schedule 2. A person who is approved by the Veterinary Officer may carry out any of the following activities for which such approval has been given – (a) artificial insemination of a domestic animal; (b) a procedure to transfer, or to assist in transferring, embryos between cattle; or (c) the implantation into an animal of a transponder.
