This Act entered into force on 1 January 2006.

Abstract

The purpose of this Act is to establish: (1) veterinary compliance criteria in relation to animals, animal products and feed in terms of safety (also for aquaculture); (2) the level of quality in laboratory testing and reporting, and diagnostic procedures; (3) additional rules to protect animals; (4) rights and duties of keepers and traders of animals, persons responsible for the load, operators of food production and distribution of food, holders of the collection, processing, treatment and disposal of animal byproducts, and laboratories; (5) monitoring, detection, prevention, eradication, control and reporting on certain animal diseases which require urgent action; (6) veterinary trade rules on the status of the disease in the country or region from which the shipment is coming to the Republic of Slovenia; (7) prohibiting the use of certain substances being used in veterinary medicine and animal husbandry; (8) details on veterinary profession and use of medicines; (9) monitoring, detection, sanctions and reporting on the unauthorized use of prohibited substances; (10) details on checking animals and animal products, feed in terms of safety, the use of drugs in veterinary medicine, checking processes of the production, marketing and trade in animals and animal products; (11) special procedures of the inspection of animals; (12) official veterinary controls to ensure verification of compliance with feed and food law, animal health and welfare; (13) veterinary profession in relation to official veterinary controls on trade and use of medicines; (14) the official veterinary supervision to ensure that imported goods comply with the law of the European Community; (15) details on the amount of veterinary fees. This Act is composed of 108 articles divided into the following Sections: General provisions (Sec. 1); Compliance (Sec. 2); Certification and health checks (Sec. 3); Official veterinary inspection (Sec. 4); Control of animals (Sec. 5); Financing of veterinary inspections and official veterinary surveillance (Sec. 6); Liabilities (Sec. 7); Administrative procedure (Sec. 8); Penalty provisions (Sec. 9); Transitional and final provisions (Sec. 10).
