The Council is for all purposes the successor to the South West African Veterinary Council established by section 2 of the Veterinary and Para-Veterinary Professions Proclamation, 1984. The Council shall, among other things, regulate the practising of the veterinary professions and veterinary para-professions, and register any person required to be registered in terms of this Act and appoint a Registrar for this purpose. The Act also sets out the requirements for a close private company to conduct business as veterinarian or veterinary para-professional. The Council may issue rules specifying the acts or omissions by registered persons which constitute unprofessional conduct and in respect of which the Council may conduct inquiries and disciplinary proceedings.
