Abstract

These Regulations require, in implementation of provisions the Marine Resources Act, fishing vessels licensed in terms of section 40(1) of the Act to have automatic location communicators (ALCs) installed and properly functioning. An ALC is an electronic system that transmits such information relating to the position and activities of the vessel concerned as the Permanent Secretary may determine, so that such information can be received at the Fisheries Monitoring Centre (to be established by the Minister under these Regulations. An ALC must comply with such technical requirements as the Permanent Secretary may determine.
