Abstract Section 3 of the Act prohibits slaughtering of cow or cow progeny in the state of Uttarakhand. Cow Progeny means a cow, bull, bullock, heifer or calf. Section 4 exempts application of section 3 in cases where the cow progeny is suffering form intolerable pain or contagious/infectious disease and have become cause of danger to livestock as well as to human being. Section 5 prohibits any person from keeping in possession, selling or transporting beef or beef products in any form. Section 6 requires a permit for the transport of cow progeny beyond the state borders and such permission shall be granted only for rearing, protection and promotion of cow progeny. Section 8 mandates the registration for rearing of cow progeny in the urban areas and requires identification of such cow progeny by means of radio frequency identification technology or as prescribed by the state government.
