Abstract This Act amends various provisions of the Uttar Pradesh Water Supply and Sewerage Act, 1975 (Principal Act). Section 3 of the Principal Act is amended, which enables the state government to bifurcate the erstwhile Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam into two corporations namely, the Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam (Urban) and the Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam (Rural). Consequential provisions have also been amended in respect of the newly formed corporations for the urban and rural areas such as the constitution of the respective corporations (sec.4); their area of jurisdiction and functions (sec. 14 and 14-A); the powers in their respective area of jurisdiction (sec. 15); vesting of property and assets (sec. 31); and transfer of employees (sec. 37).
