Subject General Keyword Governance Local government Geographical area Africa, Eastern Africa Abstract This Act amends the Urban Areas and Cities Act, 2011 in provisions concerning the delimitation and definition of urban areas and the establishment, delimitation and administration of a market centre. The county governor may, upon approval of the county assembly, confer the status of a market centre on an area that meets the criteria set out in this Act. A market centre shall be governed and managed by the county government. In implementing the principal Act, county governments shall comply with the National Urban Development Policy. Schedule 1, which defines and classifies urban areas according to services, is renewed by this Act.
