Abstract

The present Law regulates the breeding of equine animals (in particular horses), cattle, pigs, sheep and goats. The purpose of the Law is to promote the breeding and production of the said animals in such a way as to: 1) improve their performance and the productions of animal products with a view to improve their health; 2) promote animal products; 3) implement the latest scientific practice in breeding; and 4) conserve the genetic variety of animals. The text consists of 31 articles divided into 6 Parts as follows: General provisions (1); Breeding organizations, assessment of performance, assessment of breeding value (2); Transfer of breeding animals, transfer and use of semen, egg cells and embryos (3); Promotion (4); Competent authorities, Animal Breeding Committee, surveillance, external trade, ordinances, penalties (5); Transitional and final provisions (6). Five Annexes are enclosed.
