Abstract

These Rules provide for regulation and management of water supply for domestic and commercial use in Municipal Corporation, Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats within the State of Tripura. The Municipality shall be responsible for operation and maintenance of water supply assets such as water treatment plants, water pipelines, water connections and for collection of water charges/fees for supply of water. These responsibilities can be handed over to private or other government agency with the permission of the state government. The owner of the land or premises can apply for water connection for domestic or commercial water connection. The Rules require the rates of water charges to be notified and allows subsidy for domestic water connections up to certain initial units. The Rules provide for penalty and disconnection under certain circumstances and measures for prevention of wastage and misuse of water including power for search and seizure. The Rules also allow for levy of fees for drainage and sewerage services.
