Abstract

This Regulation, made under the Transport Infrastructure Act 1994 and Statutory Instruments Act 1992, consists of 204 sections divided into 21 Parts and completed by three Schedules, aims to regulate the transport of Dangerous Goods by Rail. The main purposes of this regulation are: (a) to prescribe the obligations of persons involved in the transport of dangerous goods by rail; and (b) to reduce as far as practicable the risks arising from the transport of dangerous goods by rail; and (c) to give effect to the standards, requirements and procedures of the ADG Code as far as they apply to the transport of dangerous goods by rail; and (d) to promote consistency between the standards, requirements and procedures applying to the transport of dangerous goods by rail and those applying to other modes of transport.
