Abstract

This Act provides for the protection of consumers by prohibiting false trade descriptions, as defined by this Act. The Act also empowers the Minister, if deemed necessary or expedient in the interest of persons to whom any goods are supplied, to require, by Order, that the goods should be marked with or accompanied by any information or instruction relating to the goods and regulate or prohibit the supply of goods with respect to which the requirements are not complied with. Where an order is in force with respect to goods of any description, any person who, in the course of any trade, supplies or offers to supply goods of that description in contravention of the order shall be guilty of an offence. The Act also deals with matters relating to the country of origin. It prohibits importation of goods bearing false indication of origin.
