Abstract The overall objectives of this Act are (I) establishment of a legal and administrative framework to promote tourism development; (II) establishment and empowerment of the Corporation to carry out and promote the sustainable development of tourism through effective planning and promotion; and (III) public participation in the development of tourism policies and the resolution of issues arising as a result of tourism development. This Act lays down provisions on the establishment, duties and authorities of the Nauru Tourism Corporation; directions of the Minister to the Corporation; structure of the Board of Directors; qualifications, responsibilities and duties of directors; account keeping and reporting; funds and audit of the Corporation; and the appointment and responsibilities of the Chief Executive Officer. This Act stresses on the provision of sustainable socio-economic benefit of all stakeholders; conservation and management of natural, social and cultural resources, biodiversity and the environment; and international or regional commitments in particular relating to ecotourism and Blue Ocean Strategy.
