An Act provide for the control and regulation of the tobacco industry in Zimbabwe, the promotion of the export of tobacco from Zimbabwe and the imposition of a levy on tobacco grown or sold in Zimbabwe; to control the use of agricultural remedies on tobacco and tobacco plants or lands; to provide for the establishment of the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board and to prescribe its functions and powers; and to provide for matters incidental to or connected with the foregoing.

Abstract

This Act establishes the Tobacco Marketing Board as a body corporate. The Board shall to control and regulate the marketing of tobacco, promote, protect and maintain the sale of tobacco and carry out other functions specified in section 16. The Board shall keep in a form approved by the Minister an annual register of all growers and may keep separate registers for different classes of growers (sect. 24). Only growers who are registered to grow a specific type of tobacco shall sell that type of tobacco (sect. 28). No person shall carry on the business of a grader unless he has been licensed as a grader by the Board (sect. 33). Section 36 concerns the licensing by the Board of tobacco buyers, whereas section 39 provides for the licensing of auction floors.
