The Sea Fisheries (Amendment) Regulations 2023 (S.I 2023 No. 273). Country/Territory United Kingdom Document type Regulation Date 2023 Source FAO, FAOLEX Subject Fisheries Keyword Bycatch Cartilaginous fishes Fishery management and conservation Fishing area Fishing authorization Allocation/quota Fishing vessel Non-commercial fishing Protection of species Authorization/permit Geographical area Atlantic Ocean Islands, Europe, Europe and Central Asia, North Atlantic, North Sea, North-East Atlantic, Northern Europe Entry into force notes 1st April 2023. Abstract These Regulations amends Article 10 of Council Regulation (EU) 2020/123 (EUR 2020/123) making adjustments to the level of European seabass that may be caught within British fishery limits, both as by-catch and as a targeted species by commercial fishing vessels. These Regulations also adjust the dates of the fishing seasons for recreational fisheries for European seabass contained in that Article so that the fishing seasons for recreational fisheries are aligned with the fishing seasons for commercial fishing activity. This instrument also removes picked dogfish (Squalus acanthias) under or equal to 100cm in length from prohibited species amending Article 16 of the Regulation, as was agreed at UK EU consultations for 2023 fishing opportunities and adds mako shark to prohibited species legislation.
