Abstract This Act provides for prohibition of cow slaughter and sale of beef in the state of Punjab. Section 3 prohibits the slaughter of any cow in the state. The term cow includes bull, bullock, ox, heifer, or calf. Section 4 lays down exceptions in cases where the cow is suffering from contagious or infectious disease or other suffering that its destruction is necessary. In such a case, the prior permission in writing of the Veterinary Officer of the area is required. Section 5 prohibits sale of beef or beef-products in any form. Section 8 provides for penalties in for contravention of the provisions of the Act. Full text English Website prsindia.org
