Abstract

These Regulations, made by the Minister under section 228 of the Merchant Shipping Act, apply to Mauritius ships, and foreign ships within the Mauritian maritime zones, carrying harmful substances in packaged form. The Regulation define: discharge of harmful substance and effluents; marine pollutants. The Regulations provide for: compliance with the provisions of the International Conventions; prohibition on carriage, shipment and dumping of harmful substances; marking and labelling of every packaging containing harmful substances; stowage and quantity limitation of hazardous substances; inspection of ships; violations within and outside the maritime zones; offences.
