Abstract The authorities establishing huts and markets in any place in Bangladesh and expand and contract their limits if necessary in accordance with the provisions of this Act. Haats and markets are a place where the public, on a daily or weekly basis, sells agricultural produce, fruits, animals, poultry, eggs, fish and meat, milk products or any other type of food and drink, manufactured goods and daily necessities are bought and sold and shall include shops established for the sale and purchase of these goods at the said place. However, approval of the concerned District Commissioner shall be obtained in the case of setting up of any haat and market by any local authority and in the case of expansion and contraction of its range. The ownership of haats and markets established under sub-section (1) shall vest in the Ministry of Lands. If any haat or market is established on any land in violation of the provisions of this Act, the Government may confiscate the said land along with all the interests or structures situated therein.
