Abstract

This Act, consisting of 31 articles and divided into eight Parts, concerns breastfeeding promotion and the marketing of breast-milk substitutes, in order to provide for safe and adequate nutrition measures for infants and young children. The Act concerns: establishment of the National breastfeeding advisory promotion Committee, administrative provisions, funds to finance the activity of the Committee, powers and functions of the Committee, including: ensuring widespread distribution of and publicity of the Act among operators, inspectors, interested subjects; developing materials and procedures necessary for monitoring compliance with this Act; promoting exclusive breast feeding for lactating mothers and providing baby friendly work places. Prohibitions concern: sale of unregistered designated products; advertising and distribution of promotional materials; requirements for packaging and labelling of products; requirements for ready-to- feed therapeutic food and complementary products; measures concerning labelling of skimmed, condensed, low-fat or standard milk. The Act provides for spread of information and education materials about infant and young child feeding.
