Abstract

These Regulations, implementing section 66 of the Sierra Leone Electricity and Water Regulatory Commission Act, no. 13 of 2011, apply to producers and importers of packaged water meant for sale or drinking and concern production of bottled and sachet drinking water, including: mineral and spring water, water for human consumption, water from an underground formation not derived from a public water supply system, sanitation measures, non toxic transporting, storing and packaging materials. The Regulations provide for issuing permits concerning bottled water production, sachet water production, import permit. Matters covered by the Regulations concern: powers of the Water Advisory Committee, definition of standards for drinking water, approval of sources of all bulk drinking water, process of treatment of water and respect of standards, plants for bottling or filling sachets and respect of public health, packaging and labelling requirements, sanitation measures, record keeping, offences and penalties.
