The Act states that Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (Institution) established under the Ordinance shall continue as if established under this Act. It lays down the functions of the Institution, composition of Council, appointment of committees and other administrative provisions. The Act prohibits use of Standard Mark without obtaining a license. It also prohibits sale, distribution, commercial advertisement, export of articles that do not conform to the standards. The Act empowers the institution to appoint inspectors to assess whether the Bangladesh Standard Mark has been improperly used. The Act provides for offences and penalties for contravention of the Act and allows for confiscation of articles, closure of factory and trial pursuant to such offences.
