Abstract

This Act seeks to protect and promote "taoga Niue", i.e.(a) antiquities; (b) objects of national cultural significance to Niue; (c) objects of national historical significance to Niue; (d) traditional knowledge; (e) expressions of culture; and (f) customs, traditions, and history of Niue; (g) Niuen language; and (h) traditional food. The Act establishes the Department of Taoga Niue to act as the central coordinator of all matters relating to taoga Niue and establishes a Taoga Niue Council to act as an expert advisory council to the Department in relation to taoga Niue.
