Abstract

This Act provides for the establishment of the Sustainable Energy Authority Victoria, defines its functions and powers and regulates its operation. Under section 5, the objectives of the Authority are to facilitate energy efficiency and the development and use of renewable energy to achieve environmental and economic benefits for the Victorian community and to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Its functions include to provide information and advice on the efficient use of energy, including renewable energy, and the resulting benefits to all sectors of the Victorian community; to encourage and promote the use of renewable energy and energy efficiency and to facilitate the implementation of energy efficiency measures in all sectors of the Victorian economy; to encourage and promote the development of an economically viable renewable energy and energy efficiency industry in Victoria; ant to monitor and evaluate research and development on energy efficiency and renewable energy .
