Abstract

These Regulations shall apply to shipments of radioactive waste originating in Malta, shipments, the final destination of which is Malta and shipments of radioactive waste in transit whenever the quantities and concentration of exceed the levels laid down in Schedule 1 to these Regulations. Shipments are required to be authorized by the Competent Authority (defined in regulation 2) in accordance with regulations 4 to 10. The Competent Authority shall not authorize shipments to a destination south of latitude 60°south or any country, which does not have the technical, legal or administrative resources to manage radioactive waste safely.
