Abstract

This Act makes provision for the control of the sugar industry and trade in sugar and for this purposes establishes the Sugar Industry Authority. The Authority shall, among other things, carry out control on the sugar industry, advise the Minister on matters regarding the industry, carry out research and planning, make arrangements in respect of the marketing of sugar and molasses, issue licences for the importation of sugar, register cane farmers and issue licences in respect to quotas of cane farmers. The Act also provides for the resolution of disputes by the Authority.
