Abstract The Strategic Plan for Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries is a national cross-sectoral planning instrument covering the 2012-2017 period. The plan addresses issues and challenges related to sustainable development, rural development, food security and sustainable use of natural resources. The overall objective is to ensure: a) increased profitable production of food, fiber and timber products by all categories of producers; b) sustained management of natural resources; c) effective national regulatory services and risk management systems; d) a transformed and united sector; e) increased contribution of the sector to economic growth and development; f) effective and efficient governance.
