Abstract

This Act aims at controlling the diseases of stock in Northern Territory. The Chief Inspector of Stock and inspectors are responsible for the administration and implementation of the Act (Part 2). The Act contains provisions on the declaration of quarantine areas and their management, the creation of protected areas to prevent the spread of prescribed diseases, the declaration of any vessel, holding, wharf or place is or is likely at any time to be a source of infection as restricted areas (Part 3). The Act regulates the importation and production of stock (Part 4) and provides for the elaboration and implementation of disease control programmes (Part 5) and for compensation for destroyed stock and related legal and administrative procedures. Part 6 defines general offences under the Act and related penalties.
