This Law comes into force on 8 October 2019.
Abstract

This Law is enacted with the aim to maintain and improve the performance of animal's production, by taking into consideration the animal health and welfare; to improve the economic viability and competitiveness of livestock production, with special consideration of improving sustainability; to ensure that the products obtained from the animals meet the quality requirements; and to maintain or promote genetic quality and diversity. This Law applies to bovine species, pig, sheep, goat and equine animals. Section 2 of the text provides for breeding association and breeding company, performance tests, breeding value estimates and data. Section 3 outlines transfer of ownership or breeding animals, surrender of semen, oocytes and embryos. The text contains 26 Articles divided into 5 Sections.

Regulation (EU) 2016/1012 of the European Parliament and of the Council on zootechnical and genealogical conditions for the breeding, trade in and entry into the Union of purebred breeding animals, hybrid breeding pigs and the germinal products thereof and amending Regulation (EU) No. 652/2014, Council Directives 89/608/EEC and 90/425/EEC and repealing certain acts in the area of animal breeding (‘Animal Breeding Regulation’).
