Abstract

The State Board of Fisheries is a governing body subordinated to the Government of Estonia, which acts under the competency of the Minister of the Environment and is responsible for the governmental policy on fishing as well as for the use and protection of fishery resources. Functions of the Board are inter alia: (a) to formulate and implement the fishing policy of the country; (b) to control the proper implementation of the national legislation on fisheries; (c) to manage and protect fishery resources; (d) to promote the development of the fishing industry; (e) to regulate the use of fishing gear and fishing methods; (f) to promote research and vocational training. Further provisions concern the rights and leadership of the Board.
