The Act establishes the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (sect. 3). The Authority shall provide efficient services for shipping, transhipment, landing of ships and the regulation and control of navigation within the limits of and the approaches to specified ports (sect. 6). Section 7 concerns the powers of the Authority including appointments, acquisition of property and the power to make rules. The Ports Authority may, with the approval of the Minister appoint a General Manager who shall be charged with organizing and responsibility as regards performing the Authorities functions (sect. 13). There are further provisions regarding finance, Port Authority property, liability and offences and penalties that arise under the Act. The Minister may make regulations in respect of matters relevant to this Act (sect. 67). There is a Schedule including provisions relating to members of the Port Authority. Full text English
