Abstract

The present Regulation lays down rules on the protection of wild species in Sweden. The Regulation prohibits, in relation to the wild animal species that have been marked with N, n or F in the Appendix, to use means or methods for capture or killing that are not selective and that may locally result in the disappearance or serious disturbance of the population of the species. Special rules are laid down for wild birds. Regarding plant species marked with N in Appendix to this Regulation, it is prohibited to intentionally pick, collect, cut, uproot, or destroy plants in their natural distribution area in nature. The prohibition applies to all stages of the plants' biological cycle. In addition to what is stipulated by Council Regulation (EC) No 338/97, the Regulation prohibits to import, export, or re-export: 1) live birds and eggs with embryos of species living in the wild within the European Union's European territory; and 2) live animals and plants of species marked with N or n in the Appendix to this regulation. The Regulation includes several other qualified prohibitions, including a prohibition on the storage of live animals and plants; prohibition on sale; and a prohibition on import, storage, and transport of live freshwater crayfish. Special rules are laid down on zoos and other exhibition of animals.
