Abstract

This Act provides for the establishment of the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) and provides with respect to its administration, functions and powers. The objectives of the Authority are— (a) to ensure safety of life and property at sea; (b) to prevent and combat pollution of the marine environment by ships; and (c) to promote the Republic’s maritime interests. The administration of the laws mentioned in the first column of the Schedule is transferred to the Authority subject to the amendments (if any) contained in the third column of the Schedule.
