The Rules guide the functioning and day-to-day activities of the Small Claims Court. They provide extensively on the procedures for filing claims, on who may bring claims, on responding to claims, on presenting evidence, on conducting trials, and so on. The Rules also provide for the jurisdictional competence of the Small Claims Court to make certain orders and enforce same. Essentially, the Rules provide that the Small Claims Court is not to be bound by the strict rules of procedure or evidence , thus ensuring that the Court maintains a good deal of flexibility in carrying out its proceedings.
