Abstract

This Act provides rules for the slaughtering of livestock animals and the placing on the market of meat and meat products. The purpose of this Act is to, recognising certain principles: support and promote the agriculture industry in Samoa through an efficient, effective and appropriate livestock slaughter, meat inspection and meat distribution system providing consumers with safe and wholesome locally produced meat and meat products. The veterinary service responsible for animal health and veterinary public health under the Ministry responsible for Agriculture shall be the Competent Authority for purposes of this Act and shall be responsible for enforcing this Act. The Chief Executive Officer may appoint specified authorised officers. Duties and powers of authorised officers are defined. A Meat Advisory Committee is established.
