Silviculture Practices Regulation (B.C. Reg. 108/98). Country/Territory Canada Territorial subdivision British Columbia Document type Regulation Date 1988 (2000) Source FAO, FAOLEX Subject Forestry Keyword Forest management/forest conservation Forestry protection measures Soil conservation/soil improvement Policy/planning Offences/penalties Erosion Ecosystem preservation Geographical area Americas, Arctic, Asia and the Pacific, East Pacific, North America, North Atlantic Abstract This Regulation governs silviculture practices and is divided into 5 parts as follows: Part 1 - Definitions and Interpretation; Part 2 - General; Part 3 - Silviculture Treatments; Part 4 - Protecting the Environment and Site Rehabilitation and Part 5 - Offences. The general provisions contain restrictions on felling or modifying trees in a riparian reserve zone. Provision is made to protect fish habitat and water quality with regards to slash or debris arising from silviculture treatment. Restrictions are placed on the operation of machinery and this Regulation stipulates that a person, who carries out a silviculture treatment in a known wildlife habitat area, must carry it out in accordance with known general wildlife. Part 3 regulates reforestation measures, the use of forest pesticides, stand management, forest health, and silviculture surveys and also reports. Part 4 provides that a person who is required to rehabilitate a disturbed portion of an area, (under the soil conservation measures of the Forest Practices Code of British Columbia Act, R.S.B.C. 1996, c. 159), must submit a soil rehabilitation plan that (a) restores the disturbed portion of the area to an acceptable level of productivity, (b) reduces surface soil erosion in the area, and (c) reasonably mitigates the impact of the forest practice that made the rehabilitation necessary on forest resources. This Regulation also contains an example of an activity reporting form, - Form B, and a forest cover definition form, - Form C.
