It requires the owner or occupier of any premises to obtain a connection and pay fees to be entitled to empty sewage into Government Sewer main. The government is empowered to fix the rate of charges for sewerage services and also levy a sewerage tax on premises where sewerage services are provided. It provides for examining, testing and opening of any private sewer or cess-pool believed to be defective and for compensation in case it is found to be in proper condition. The Act allows the Department to clean and disinfect any tank, pool or well, if such cleaning or disinfection will prevent or check the spread of any dangerous disease. It provides for penalties for offences committed and gives the power to arrest a person committing an offense. Full text English Website www.indiacode.nic.in
