Abstract This Law aims to promote the distribution of seeds and seedlings and the breeding of plant varieties. It provides regulations relating to the labelling of designated seeds and for a system relating to the registration of plant varieties for the protection of new plant varieties in order to contribute to the development of agriculture, forestry and fisheries. There are provisions relating to the labelling of designated seeds and seedlings (sect. 3) and standards relating to the production of seeds (sect. 5). Section 12 covers registration of a variety and the effects of registration including provisions on application and registration fees. Section 13 refers to the penal provisions of the Act.
