For this purpose, different actions were proposed: Reduce the rate of deforestation in the Amazon by 80%, and by 40% in the Cerrado; Intensively adopt in agriculture the recovery of currently degraded pastures; Actively promote land-use integration (iLP); Increase the use of the Direct Planting System (SPD) and the Biological Fixation of Nitrogen (BNF); and, Increase energy efficiency, the use of biofuels, the supply of hydroelectric and alternative sources of biomass, wind energy and small hydropower plants, as well as to increase the use of coal from planted forests in steel industries. These commitments were ratified in article 12 of the Law establishing the National Policy on Climate Change - PNMC (Law 12.187 of 29 December 2009). This legislation establishes that the Executive Branch will establish Sectorial Mitigation and Adaptation Plans for Climate Change, aiming at the Consolidation of a Low Carbon in several sectors of the economy, including agriculture.
