Abstract

These Regulations amend to the Sea Pollution (Control of Pollution by Noxious Liquid Substances in Bulk) Regulations, 1994 which give effect to Annex II of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships and as amended by its Protocol and as further amended by the Marine Environment Protection Committee of the International Maritime Organisation. The Regulations modify the definition of "noxious liquid substances and of "special area" so as to include the sea area south of latitude 60S (“Antarctic area”). Various amendments concern the discharge of polluting substances in the sea. One provision concerns inspection of ships registered in another state that is a party to the MARPOL Convention.
