Abstract The Samoa Energy Sector Plan is a national policy with a cross-sectoral approach. The timeframe of this Policy is 5 years between 2017 and 2022. The objectives of this Plan are (I) reduce the dependency of fossil fuels and promote the use of renewable energy resources, (II) improve the generation and distribution of electricity, (III) promote energy efficiency in the transportation sector, (IV) effective and efficient monitoring of petroleum products, and (V) institutional capacity building. Furthermore, this Plan also addresses cross-cutting issues in the fields of climate change, resilience of the communities, human development, collection and dissemination of information, energy efficiency across the sectors, and gender equality.
