Rules for training pointing dogs for moorfowl and field game. Country/Territory Russian Federation Document type Regulation Date 1981 Source FAO, FAOLEX Subject Wild species & ecosystems Keyword Wild fauna Hunting/capture Hunting gear/hunting methods Game Birds Geographical area Arctic, Asia and the Pacific, Black Sea, Caspian Sea, CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States), Eastern Europe, Europe, Europe and Central Asia, North Pacific, North-West Pacific Abstract Tests of pointing dogs for moorfowl and field game shall be performed both in prohibited and in authorized period of hunting. Training tests shall be conducted on the following types of game: (a) moorfowl (mostly double snipe and European snipe, and, if they are not available, grass snipe, crake and pullet). Due to the difficulty of determining the range and fidelity of instincts on the ruff, the work of the dog in this game is not taken into account, as is the work on the wild duck; and (c) field game (quail, partridge and pheasant). The choice of the main game, according to which the tests are carried out, must correspond to the local conditions of hunting, so that the work on the chosen game is usual for most dogs. In the process of testing must be identified and evaluated: scent with a division of the range, fidelity and the manner of smelling out; quick search; search style; pull; pointing; lead; typical style, which includes the type of movement, pointing, pull and lead; and training that includes positioning and obedience.
