Abstract

This Decree consisting of 3 articles aims at amending some provisions of the Royal Decree that regulates the privatization of the electricity and related water sector. Main purpose of the majority of these amendments is (i) to transfer the electricity-related policy-setting competencies from the Public Authority for Electricity and Water (PAEW) to the Ministry of Oil and Gas (MOG); and (ii) to achieve better coordination and a more efficient allocation of the energy sources. Main objectives of the Authority to be achieved through the Regulations developed after coordination with the Ministry of Oil and Gas are (i) ensure regular supply of electricity; (ii) protect the public from the risk of injury resulting from works and installations related to the electricity and related water sector; (iii) encourage the optimal use of electrical energy taking into account the relevant controls and standards approved by the Ministry of Oil and Gas; and (iv) encourage the production and sale of electricity using renewable energy sources.
