This Decree enters into force on the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.
Abstract

The System of the Public Authority for Consumer Protection promulgated by this Royal Decree consists of 17 articles and establishes the main tasks of the Authority as follows (i) protecting the consumer from price fluctuations; (ii) monitoring the prices of goods and services in the markets and limiting their rise; (iii) ensuring the fulfillment of the rules of consumer freedom of choice, equality, fair treatment, honesty and credibility; (iv) developing general consumer awareness and using sound scientific methods to disseminate them; (v) finding quick solutions to consumer complaints; (vi) combating commercial fraud and counterfeiting, and fighting monopoly; (vii) encouraging the establishment of consumer protection associations (art.3). The management of the Authority shall be undertaken by a Board of Directors, with the membership of representatives of the concerned entities, that shall have the power of issuing decisions and taking the necessary measures for the Authority to exercise its competencies and achieve its objectives.
