The MPA is designated to contribute to specific objectives, in line with Article II of the CAMLR Convention including protection of habitats and biodiversity. With certain exceptions, fishing activities are prohibited within the MPA (i.e. fishing for Dissostichus spp. and krill and for scientific purposes with restrictions). The management measures and administrative arrangements for achieving the specific objectives of the MPA are specified in the MPA Management Plan (Annex 91-05/B). Members participating in the CCAMLR System of Inspection are encouraged to carry out surveillance and inspection activities within the MPA to verify compliance with this conservation measure and other applicable conservation measures.
