Abstract This Act, consisting of eight Chapters divided into 46 sections, establishes the Right to Food and Food Sovereignty Act. It provides measures to be taken for the Right to Food and Protection from Food Insecurity. The Government of Nepal, Provincial and Local Government shall, in mutual coordination, make necessary arrangements considering available resources for respecting, protecting and fulfilling rights as stated in Sub-section 1. Every citizen shall have the right to food, food security and food sovereignty as stated below: a) regular access to adequate, nutritious and quality food without discrimination; b) be free from hunger; c) remain safe from the situation of threat to life caused by lack of food; d) have sustainable access to food and nutritional support by Individual or family vulnerable to starvation or food insecurity; e) recognition and dignity of every peasant or food producer; f) participating in food and agricultural production systems; g) access to resources necessary for agricultural works; choosing local seeds, technologies, tools and agricultural species, and to acquire protection of its intellectual property; i) protection of conventional and organic food; j) use of culturally accepted foods; k) protection from arbitrary deprivation from the agricultural occupation.
