Abstract

This Resolution of the Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC), in order to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing activities in the Convention area that undermine the effectiveness of the IATTC conservation and management measures introduces a Statistical Document Program for IATTC Bigeye Tuna which shall be implemented by IATTC Contracting Parties. The Program consists of a Bigeye Tuna Statistical Document and a Bigeye Tuna Re-export Certificate. The IATTC Bigeye Tuna Statistical Document must be validated by a government official or other authorized individual or institution of the flag State of the vessel that harvested the tuna, or, if the vessel is operating under a charter arrangement, by a government official or other authorized individual of the exporting state, whereas the IATTC Bigeye Tuna Re-export Certificate must be validated by a government official or other authorized individual or institution of the state that re-exported the tuna. The Contracting Parties which export or import bigeye tuna shall compile data from the Program. The Contracting Parties should exchange copies of statistical documents and re-export certificates to facilitate the examination of import data collected under this Resolution by IATTC.
